I love fresh flowers, as most girls do, and I benefited from hosting an open house this past weekend by having lots of fresh flowers around the house. We have sunflowers in the kitchen, a garden variety in the dining room, and red tulips (given to me by a friend) in the bathroom. Beautiful. So this morning, I walked into my bathroom to see my two-day old tulips flopped over the vase looking more than pathetic. I realized like every living thing, they need water. I apparently was given the super thirsty variety of tulip as all the water I put in the vase two days ago was gone.
It was a perfect picture of how we as women and particularly Christian women, fill our 'vase' (our hearts) with The Lord on Sundays at church and then by Tuesday realize the vase is empty again. We can't understand why our strength seems weak and our mouths slip in anger, or our hearts are filled with worry. We felt strong on Sunday but weak only two days later. Like the tulips, we must be filled and refilled with water.
"Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. 38 For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from the heart of anyone who believes in me.’” John 7:37-38
Let us be reminded to continually fill our hearts with Lord and a his good word, so that we might stand upright with beauty and bring joy to this world. Drink deeply of Him and be filled.
